Keeping it Reel

Our High School Summer Program

If you’ve read our blog post: “And…Action! How do I Academically Prepare for Film School,” you know that things like A.P. course can help you get a jump-start on your college career, even in Film. But while A.P. courses are a big help to any student who wants to gain experience and college credit, they don’t really cater to the average film student. Yeah, it would be great to get a few classes out of the way before college, but you’re looking for a way to improve your film skills. So how can you do it?

Well, we are now accepting applications for our 2017 Summer High School Program. Our program will give you the opportunity to enhance the skills that matter to you while pursuing college credit, giving you a headstart on the path to success.

So what is the High School Summer Program?

High School Summer Program is the name we give to the 4 two-week sessions of classes we offer in the Summer from July 16-August 12. Each session is made up of varying courses such as Acting Essentials, Digital Film Production, and Screenwriting. These courses are taught by film professionals with advanced equipment in the same facilities that Columbia College Hollywood students use.

What are the benefits of attending the Program?

Students who participate in our Summer Program have the opportunity to receive valuable skills and knowledge from experienced film professionals, but that’s not all. As mentioned earlier, students of our Summer Program have the chance to earn college credit in just two weeks time. For every course a student completes, they can earn up to 4 college credits at Columbia College Hollywood. Credits may be submissive at other colleges and universities as well, but like any transfer credits, whether or not they are accepted is up to the college or university they are being transferred to.

Outside of academic benefits, students in the Summer Program have the ability to learn more about their areas of interests and decide whether or not they truly want to pursue an education in Film or a film-related subject. Why is this important? A student who knows what they want to do before entering college is able to effectively plan their college career. While it is perfectly okay to be unsure what you want to do while entering college, knowing earlier can help you save time and money that would otherwise be spent trying out different classes.

What else should I know?

You can visit our web page if you want to dive into the specifics a little more, but a few good things to know are:

  • Housing: Students who require room and board will stay at a 4-star luxury hotel staffed with live-in advisors. Housing is completely optional, but the cost of housing is reflected in the course price.
  • Time: Courses meet Monday-Saturday from 10:00am-5:30pm
  • Application Due Date: The Priority deadline for the High School Summer Program Application is Friday, February 24, 2017. After this date, applications will be accepted until all available course spaces have been filled.
  • Age Requirement: Students must be at least 16 years of age to apply for this program.

New Call-to-action

This blog is a collaborative effort by CCH staff and administration who want to share their knowledge with the film school community and prospective students.

At CCH, we believe it is important to take a stand by demonstrating our willingness to promote and inspire systemic change. We must speak honestly and truthfully to the ugliness of racism that permeates throughout our society today. It may be an uncomfortable conversation for some, but it is an all-too familiar reality for anyone living in this country with black or brown skin. Hiding from it, ignoring it, or being silent about it will not make it go away.
